What to Expect During a Thai Massage in Gulshan Dhaka | Melody Thai Spa

Beginner’s Guide

What to Expect During
Your First Thai Massage

Nervous about your first Thai massage? Don’t be. Here’s a step-by-step guide so you know exactly what happens — from the moment you walk in.

First time? You’re in good hands. Over 60% of our guests at Melody Thai Spa were first-timers. Here’s everything you need to know so you walk in confident and relaxed.

Before You Arrive

What to Wear

Loose, comfortable clothing — think yoga wear or track pants. Thai massage is performed fully clothed on a mat. We also provide clean cotton suits if needed.

What to Avoid

Don’t eat a heavy meal within 2 hours of your session. Avoid caffeine beforehand. Hydrate well — it helps your muscles respond better.

Arrive Early

Come 10 minutes before your scheduled time. This lets you fill out a brief health form, use the restroom, and settle into the peaceful environment.

Communicate

Tell your therapist about injuries, problem areas, or if you prefer lighter or firmer pressure. We adjust everything to your comfort level.

Step by Step: Your Session

Step 1: Welcome & Health Check

You’ll be greeted with herbal tea and asked to complete a brief health questionnaire. This is standard and helps us ensure the massage is safe and effective for you.

Step 2: The Treatment Room

You’ll be shown to a private treatment room with a padded mat on the floor. Soft Thai music plays in the background. The room is dimly lit and aromatic with natural incense.

Step 3: The Massage Begins

Unlike oil massage, Thai massage starts while you’re fully clothed on the mat. The therapist begins with gentle pressure on your feet, working upward. The signature element is the assisted stretching — your therapist will move your body through yoga-like positions.

You’ll experience:

  • Rhythmic pressure along energy lines (Sen)
  • Assisted stretches — your body is moved gently
  • Rocking motions to loosen the spine
  • Acupressure at key tension points

Step 4: The Cool Down

The last 10 minutes are gentle touches and light stretches to bring you back to a relaxed, grounded state. You’ll feel loose, calm, and more flexible.

Step 5: After the Session

Enjoy a cup of herbal tea in our relaxation area. Your therapist will offer simple aftercare advice. Most guests feel an immediate sense of lightness and improved mobility.

Pro tip: You might feel mild soreness the next day — like after a good workout. This is normal and means the treatment is working. Drink water and a gentle walk helps.

What You’ll Feel

During the session: A mix of sensations — pressure where muscles are tight, stretching that feels both intense and relieving, and moments of deep relaxation between movements.

After the session: Most guests describe feeling taller, looser, and unusually calm. The effects build over 24-48 hours. Many say they sleep better that night.

Is Thai Massage Painful?

The honest answer: it can be intense if you’re not flexible, but never painful. Good therapists work within your range. The philosophy is “no pain, no pain” — if something hurts, we adjust. You control the pressure at all times.

  • Anyone with poor posture or back stiffness
